About the Society

Our Mission
The purpose of the Montgomery County Genealogical and Historical Society is to locate, research, preserve, and publish genealogical and historical records related to Montgomery County. The Society promotes public awareness of genealogy and sound research practices through education and outreach, and actively supports the genealogy department of the Montgomery County Memorial Library, the official repository for the Society’s original records.

History of the Society
Established in 1977, the Montgomery County Genealogical and Historical Society was formed by individuals dedicated to preserving the county’s historical record and supporting genealogical research. Since its founding, the Society has worked to collect, preserve, and share historical and genealogical resources that document the people, families, and communities of Montgomery County, Texas.

Over the decades, the Society has evolved to meet the changing needs of researchers and the public—expanding educational programming, strengthening preservation efforts, and embracing new tools for historical and genealogical discovery. Today, the Society continues to honor its founding purpose while remaining actively engaged in connecting the past to the present.
